Abstract
Abstract Translated
This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) during the period 24-25 November 1988 in Cairo under the title, 'Health policy: ethics and human values from an Islamic perspective'. The paper presents first how classical Muslim religious scholars understood the body-soul relationship which is an important criterion for defining death. The author concludes that brain death should be seen as an acceptable death criterion from an Islamic perspective.
