Abstract Translated
This paper was read during the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 15-17 January 1985 on the beginning and the end of human life. After introductory remarks about the concept of soul as defined by Muslim religious scholars, this paper elaborates in detail on the juristic rulings pertinent to death and how to define death in light of modern medical advancements. The paper is appended by the fatwa of the Azhar committee on blood transfusion and on transplanting some parts of the eye.
