يناقش هذا المقال مفهوم الطاعون كما شرحه فقهاء الإسلام في كتاباتهم عن الطب النبوي مقارنة بفهم الأطباء قديما وحديثا. ويخلص المؤلف إلى القول بأن تحليل فقهاء الإسلام هو الأقرب إلى المعارف الطبية المتاحة اليوم بخلاف ما صرح به الأطباء قديما. ويرى المؤلف أن هذا يرجع إلى أن فقهاء الإسلام اعتمدوا على الأحاديث النبوية الواردة في شأن الطاعون.

This article discusses the concept of plague as outlined by Muslim religious scholars in the genre of prophetic medicine compared with the understanding of early and contemporary physicians. The author concludes that the analysis of Muslim religious scholars is closer to available medical knowledge now than that of the early physicians. To the author, this was because these religious scholars based themselves on the prophetic traditions on plague.
