تم تقديم هذا البحث إلى المؤتمر العالمي الثاني عن الطب الإسلامي المنعقد في الكويت في شهر مارس من عام 1982. استعرض المؤلف تعليم الطب في الأزهر منذ إنشائه بمصر عام 972 كمؤسسة تعليمية. وتبنى المؤلف الرأي القائل بأن الأزهر منذ تأسيسية قد اضطلع دائما بدور رائد في مجال تعليم الطب. وأشار البحث إلى عدد من الأطباء البارزين الذين تخرجوا من الأزهر وإلى إسهاماتهم في مجال الطب والأخلاق وآرائهم في عدد من المواضيع الحساسة مثل التشريح.

This paper was presented to the second international conference on Islamic medicine held in March 1982 in Kuwait. The author reviewed medical education at al-Azhar since its establishment as an educational institution in Egypt in 972. The author argued that al-Azhar always played a pioneering role in medical education from the beginning of its history. The paper referred to a number of the notable physicians who graduated from al-Azhar and their contribution to the field of medicine and ethics and their opinions on sensitive issues like dissection.
