يتضمن هذا المجلد أعمال الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في الكويت تحت عنوان 'العلوم في الإسلام' وذلك خلال الفترة 23-25 يناير من عام 2001. وقد تم عقد هذه الندوة بالتعاون مع المجمع الدولي للفقه الإسلامي و المنظمة الإسلامية للتربية والعلوم والثقافة (الإيسيسكو). وقد أكد المشاركون على أن مفهوم 'العلم' في الإسلام لا ينحصر في العلوم الدينية ولكنه يشير أيضا إلى العلوم الطبية والحيوية. وقد استعرضت عدة أبحاث الجوانب التاريخية للعلوم والعلماء في ظل الحضارة الإسلامية. وقد ركز عدد آخر من الأبحاث على النظرة المستقبلية وكيف يمكن أن يصبح الإسلام حافزا على تشجيع البحث العلمي. وقد ذُيِّلَ البحث بنص التوصيات الختامية التي أقرها المشاركون.

This publication contains the proceedings of the symposium 'Sciences in Islam' held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 23-25 January 2001. The symposium was organized in cooperation with the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). The participants stressed that the concept of 'science' in Islam does not refer exclusively to the religious sciences but also to biomedical and life sciences. Different papers reviewed the historical aspects of sciences and scientists in the Islamic civilizations. The other papers focused on the future prospects and how Islam can be used as incentive to promote scientific research. The publication is appended by the text of final recommendations endorsed by the participants.
