تم تقديم هذا البحث إلى الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في الكويت حول الشيخوخة وذلك خلال الفترة 18-21 أكتوبر من عام 1999. يشرح البحث في البداية عددا من المصطلحات العربية ذات الصلة بموضوع المسنين وكيف تم استخدام هذه المصطلحات في الأدب والشعر العربي. ويركز البحث على استعراض الجوانب الأخلاقية والفقهية التي تشكل المنظور الإسلامي فيما يتعلق برعاية هذه الفئة من الناس.

Abstract Translated

This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) during the period 18-21 October 1999 on ethical issues related to aging. The paper first elaborates on specific Arabic terms pertinent to the aged as used in Arabic literature and poetry. The main focus of the paper is delineating the ethical and juristic aspects which compose the Islamic vision about taking care of this group of people.
