يتضمن هذان المجلدان أعمال الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في الكويت خلال الفترة 18-21 أكتوبر من عام 1999. وقد تم تنظيم هذه الندوة بالتعاون مع المنظمة الإسلامية للتربية والعلوم والثقافة (الإيسيسكو) والمجمع الدولي للفقه الإسلامي التابع لمنظمة المؤتمر الإسلامي والمكتب الإقليمي لشرق المتوسط التابع لمنظمة الصحة العالمية والاتحاد العالمي للمنظمات الطبية. وركزت الندوة على معالجة موضوع تقديم الرعاية الصحية للمسنين من منظور إسلامي. وتطرق عدد من الأبحاث إلى الخدمات الصحية الموجودة بالفعل في عدد من الدول العربية والإسلامية. وفي الختام تم إلقاء الضوء على الأبعاد الأخلاقية لقضية القتل الرحيم. وقد ذُيِّلَ المجلد الثاني بعدد من التوصيات الختامية.

This two-volume publication is based on the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) during the period 18-21 October 1999. This symposium was organized in cooperation with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) affiliated with the Organization of the Islamic Conference (IOC), Regional Office for the East Mediterranean, World Health Organization (WHO) and the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). The main focus of this symposium was delineating the Islamic perspectives on providing health care for the aged. Different papers also handled the health services already provided for the aged in different Arab and Islamic countries. Finally, attention was paid to the ethical dimensions of euthanasia. Final recommendations of the symposium were appended to the second volume of this publication.
