تم تقديم هذا البحث إلى الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية حول علم الوراثة في الكويت خلال الفترة 13-15 أكتوبر من عام 1998. بعد استعراض الفوائد والأضرار المحتملة لتطبيق تقنيات الهندسة الوراثية على الحيوانات والنباتات تطرق المؤلف إلى سبل تقييم هذا التقنيات من وجهة نظر إسلامية بالاستناد إلى آيات قرآنية وأحاديث نبوية وقواعد فقيهة ثم خلص إلى القول بأن تطبيق تقنيات الهندسة الوراثية على الحيوانات والنباتات هو أمر مباح في الإسلام وفق شروط وقيود معينة.

This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 13-15 October 1998 on genetics. After reviewing the possible benefits and harms of applying the techniques of genetic engineering to animals and plants, the author reflects upon the Islamic perspective on these techniques. He bases his analysis on Qur'anic verses, prophetic traditions and Islamic legal maxims and then concludes that applying genetic engineering to animals and plants is, under specific restrictions and conditions, permitted in Islam.
