هل من القبول من الناحية الأخلاقية الإسلامية إلزام الراغبين في الزواج بإجراء الاختبار الجيني قبل الزواج؟ هذا هو السؤال الرئيسي لهذا البحث المقدم إلى الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية حول علم الوراثة في الكويت خلال الفترة 13-15 أكتوبر من عام 1998. يجيب المؤلف على هذا السؤال بالنفي ويرى أن لا يمكن أن يصبح إجراء مثل هذا الاختبار الجيني إلزاميا لأن هذا الإجراء ينتهك مبادئ أخلاقية مثل الاستقلال الذاتي.

Is it acceptable, from an Islamic ethical perspective, to force a to-be-married couple to undergo genetic testing before marriage? This is the main question of this paper which was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 13-15 October 1998 on genetics. The author answers this question negatively and argues that such a genetic testing cannot be made compulsory because this regulation would contravene ethical principles such as autonomy.
