يهدف هذا البحث إلى تقديم معلومات أساسية عن الإيدز للفقهاء المسلمين المشاركين في الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية حول هذا الموضوع في الكويت وذلك أثناء الفترة 6-8 ديسمبر من عام 1993. إلى جانب التعريف بمفهوم الإيدز وأسبابه وأعراضه وسبل إمكانية نقل العدوى إلى الآخرين بما فيها قضية الأم المرضع وسبل الوقاية والأجهاض، تطرق البحث أيضا وبشكل مقتضب إلى الأخلاقيات الإسلامية المتعلقة بهذه الأمور وخاصة حقوق مريض الإيدز في المجتمع وقضية اعتباره وصمة عار.

The main theme of this paper is to provide basic information about AIDS for the participating Muslim religious scholars in the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) on this topic in Kuwait during the period 6-8 December 1993. Besides elaborating on the concept of AIDS, its causes, symptoms and ways of transmitting this disease to others including the case of the breastfeeding mother, preventive measures and abortion, the paper touches briefly on Islamic ethics with regard to these points but especially on the rights of the AIDS patient in society and the issue of stigmatization.
