Abstract

Abstract Translated

The Turkish religious scholar, Mustafa Sabri, presented this paper during the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 15-17 January 1985 on the beginning and the end of human life. The main conclusion of this paper is that brain death cannot be seen as a valid excuse in Islamic jurisprudence to harvest organs for transplantation. The author prefers to adopt the cautious approach of the early Muslim religious scholars who would declare death only if there is no doubt about it.
