Abstract

Abstract Translated

This paper was read during the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 15-17 January 1985 on the beginning and the end of human life. The paper argues that as long as there is any single sign of life such as moving, breathing and the like then the person cannot be declared dead even if the physicians say that the brain is dead. The author also maintains that procuring organs for transplantation from a dead person is permitted on the condition that death is established without any doubt and that all family members give their consent.
