تم تقديم هذا البحث إلى المؤتمر العالمي الخامس عن الطب الإسلامي المنعقد في الكويت خلال الفترة 20-23 نوفمبر 1988. يستعرض البحث إسهامات الحضارات والأمم المختلفة لمفهوم الأخلاقيات الطبية عبر التاريخ ومنها القدماء المصريون والإغريق واليهود والرومان وأوروبا في العصور المظلمة والصليبيون. كما يشير البحث إلى نصوص عدد من الأقسام التي كان يأخذها الأطباء على عاتقهم ومنها القسم الإسلامي الذي تم تبنيه أثناء المؤتمر العالمي الأول عن الطب الإسلامي والذي انعقد في الكويت في شهر يناير من عام 1981.

This paper was presented to the fifth international conference on Islamic medicine held in Kuwait during the period 20-23 November 1988. The paper reviews the contributions of different civilizations and nations to the concept of medical ethics throughout history including ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Jews, Romans, Europe in the dark ages and the crusaders. Reference is also made to the texts of different oaths to be taken by physicians including the Islamic oath adopted during the first international conference on Islamic medicine held in Kuwait January 1981.
