تم تقديم هذا البحث إلى الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في الكويت حول الشيخوخة وذلك خلال الفترة 18-21 أكتوبر من عام 1999. يشرح الجزء الأول المفاهيم الاصطلاحية المستخدمة للتعبير عن المسنين في الأدب الإسلامي وفي الأنظمة القانونية الحديثة وخاصة في الكويت. ويتطرق الجزء الثاني إلى الجوانب الأخلاقية للتعامل مع هذه الفئة من الناس كما فصلها كل من الفقه الإسلامي والفلسفة وكما تم تطبيق هذا في التاريخ الإسلامي ويركز المؤلف على دور الأوقاف في هذا الصدد.
Abstract Translated
This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) during the period 18-21 October 1999 on ethical issues related to aging. The first part of this paper explains the technical terms used for expressing the aged in Islamic literature and in modern legal systems especially in Kuwait. The second part elaborates on the ethical aspects of dealing with this group of people as detailed in Islamic jurisprudence and philosophy and as applied in Islamic history. The author focuses on the role of religious endowments (awqāf) in this respect.
