Abstract

Abstract Translated

This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 18-21 April 1987 on some medical practices from an Islamic ethical perspective. The first part of this paper reviews in detail the discussions of classical Muslim religious scholars on selling specific human organs. The second part reflects upon the relevance of these classical discussions in light of modern biomedical advancements which made organ transplantation possible. The author concludes that selling human organs is, under specific conditions, acceptable from an Islamic ethical perspective.
