يتضمن هذان المجلدان أعمال المؤتمر المنعقد في اسطنبول، تركيا خلال الفترة 29 أغسطس – 1 سبتمبر 1998 حول المخدرات والمواد النفسانية التأثير والتدخين. وقد قام بعقد هذا المؤتمر المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية بالتعاون مع المنظمة الإسلامية للتربية والعلوم والثقافة (الإيسيسكو) والمجمع الدولي للفقه الإسلامي التابع لمنظمة المؤتمر الإسلامي والمكتب الإقليمي لشرق المتوسط التابع لمنظمة الصحة العالمية. وقد ناقش عدد كبير من الأبحاث الموضوع الرئيسي للمؤتمر وهو إدمان المخدرات من زوايا مختلفة مثل علم الاجتماع والأمن ووسائل الإعلام والتجارب الدولية والعلاج الطبي والوقائي. وتمثلت أحد محاور المؤتمر في عرض وجهات النظر الإسلامية ودور الإيمان في مكافحة الإدمان والتدخين.

This two-volume publication includes the proceedings of the conference held in Istanbul, Turkey during the period 29 August-1 September 1998 on drugs, psychoactive substances and smoking. The conference was held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in cooperation with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) affiliated with the Organization of the Islamic Conference (IOC) and the Regional Office for the East Mediterranean, World Health Organization (WHO). A great number of papers handled the main theme of this conference, drug addiction, from different perspectives: sociology, security, mass media, international experiences, medical treatment and preventive medicine. Delineating the Islamic perspectives and the role of faith in combating drug addiction and smoking was one of the focal points in this conference.
