صدر هذا الكتاب عن مشروع بحثي تم تمويله من قبل جامعة الكويت عام 1999 وفي عام 2002 وافقت المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في الكويت على القيام بنشره. يستعرض الجزء الأول من الكتاب التعريفات اللغوية والعلمية للاستنساخ وأنواعه المختلفة كما تم إلقاء الضوء على المواقف الأخلاقية تجاه الاستنساخ والتي تبناها عدد من المنظمات الدولية والغربية. وقد خصص الجزء الثاني من الكتاب لتحليل الأحكام الفقهية الإسلامية المتعلقة باستنساخ النباتات والحيوانات والبشر كما تطرق هذا الجزء إلى الأحكام الفقهية المتعلقة بالأطفال الذين ولدوا عن طريق الاستنساخ في حالة ما إذا نجح استنساخ البشر في يوم من الأيام.

This book is based on a research project funded by the Kuwait University in 1999. In 2002 the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait agreed to publish it. The first part of the book reviews the linguistic and scientific definitions of cloning and its different types. Also attention is paid to the ethical statements on cloning issued by international Islamic and Western organizations. The second part of the book is dedicated to analyzing the Islamic juristic rulings pertinent to cloning plants, animals or humans. This part also elaborates on the juristic rulings concerning the cloned baby if human cloning would ever happen.
