عقدت المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية ندوة في الكويت بعنوان 'الوراثة والهندسة الوراثية والجينوم البشري والعلاج الجيني: رؤية إسلامية' وذلك خلال الفترة 13-15 أكتوبر من عام 1998. وقد تم نشر أعمال هذه الندوة في مجلدين. ويتضمن هذا المجلد الثاني والمعنون بــ 'الإرشاد الجيني والتوصيات' الأبحاث التي تطرقت إلى موضوعي الإرشاد الجيني وإجراء الاختبار الوراثي خاصة قبل الزواج. وقد ذُيِّلَ البحث بعدد من التوصيات الختامية.

During the period 13-15 October 1998, the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) held a symposium in Kuwait on 'Genetics, genetic engineering, human genome and genetic therapy: An Islamic perspective'. The proceedings of this symposium appeared in a two-volume publication. This second volume entitled 'genetic counseling and recommendations' included papers on genetic counseling and genetic testing especially before marriage. This volume was appended by a number of final recommendations.
