عقد المجلس الدولي لشؤون الكحول والإدمان مؤتمره الدولي الحادي والأربعين في القاهرة خلال الفترة 17-22 مايو 1997. وقد شاركت المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في هذا المؤتمر ببرنامج خاص على مدار يومين ركز على وجهات النظر الإسلامية المتعلقة بقضايا الإدمان بالإضافة إلى الوضع في عدد من الدول الإسلامية. وقد تم نشر الأبحاث المقدمة إلى برنامج المنظمة خلال يومي الحادي والعشرين والثاني والعشرين من مايو في هذا المجلد. وقد تطرق عدد من الأبحاث إلى وضعية المدمنين والإدمان بالإضافة إلى الجهود الحكومية وغير الحكومية لمكافحته في عدد من الدول الإسلامية مثل الكويت ومصر وإيران وباكستان بينما ركز عدد آخر من الأبحاث على دور الأخلاقيات والأحكام الإسلامية في مكافحة ظاهرة الإدمان.

During the 41st conference held by the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA) in Cairo during the period 17-22 May 1997, the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) participated with a special two-day program which focused on the Islamic perspectives on issues related to addiction and also the situation in different Muslim countries. The IOMS program was presented on 21st and 22nd May whose papers were published in this volume. Some of the papers handled the situation of addicts and addiction in addition to the governmental and non-governmental efforts to combat it in different Islamic countries such as Kuwait, Egypt, Iran and Pakistan. The other papers focused on the role of Islamic ethics and rulings to combat the phenomenon of addiction.
