Abstract

Abstract Translated

This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 18-21 April 1987 on some medical practices from an Islamic ethical perspective. The author discusses three specific cases from an Islamic ethical perspective: (1) a married woman gets pregnant but the physician knows that her husband is infertile, (2) a physician is involved in clandestine practices which contravene the ethics of the medical profession and one of his colleagues comes to know about these practices and (3) a physician discovers that a husband has contracted a sexual disease but his family members do not know about this disease. The main question handled throughout the paper is whether such secrets should be disclosed, and if yes, what are the ethical considerations that should be kept in mind?
