تم تقديم هذا البحث إلى الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية حول الإيدز والمشاكل الاجتماعية المتعلقة به في الكويت أثناء الفترة 6-8 ديسمبر من عام 1993. ينتقد المؤلف اللجوء الموسمي إلى الأخلاقيات الدينية كلما أحس المجتمع بحاجة ملحة لهذه الأخلاقيات لأجل مواجهة مشكلة معينة مثل الإيدز. كما ينتقد المؤلف في هذا الصدد عدا من الفلاسفة الغربيين أمثال جان جاك روسو وجرمي بنثام. ويخلص المؤلف إلى القول بأن العالم الإسلامي ينبغي أن يتعامل مع الأخلاقيات الدينية على أنها أحد مُكَوِّنات الحياة الأساسية وليس فقط مجرد أداة يتم الاستعانة بها من أجل تحقيق مصالح موسمية براجماتية.

This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 6-8 December 1993 on AIDS and the relevant social problems. The author criticizes the occasional focus on religious morals whenever society is in urgent need of these morals in order to tackle a specific problem like AIDS. In this regard, he criticizes some Western philosophers such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Jeremy Bentham. He concludes that the Muslim world should approach religious morals as a fundamental component of life and not just an instrument that should be invoked for occasional pragmatic interests.
