يتضمن هذا السِّفْر الضخم أعمال الندوة التي عقدتها المنظمة الإسلامية للعلوم الطبية في الكويت خلال الفترة 15-17 يناير من العام 1985 حول بداية الحياة الإنسانية ونهايتها. وقد شارك عدد كبير من الفقهاء والأطباء في هذه الندوة بالنقاس وبالأبحاث المقدمة. وفي إطار المناقشات حول مسألة بداية الحياة الإنسانية ونهايتها تطرق المشاركون إلى عدد من القضايا المتعلقة مثل وضع الجنين من خلال المنظومة القيمية والدينية وإجراء الأبحاث على الأجنة والإجهاض وموت الدماغ. ويتكون هذا العمل من جزئين الأول يعالج القاضايا المتعلقة ببداية الحياة الإنسانية والآخر بتلك المتعلقة بنهاية الحياة الإنسانية وقد تضمن كل جزء عددا من التوصيات التي أقرها المشاركون في الندوة.

This voluminous publication contains the proceedings of the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 15-17 January 1985 on the beginning and the end of human life. Many Muslim religious scholars and physicians submitted papers in this symposium and participated in the discussions. Within the broad lines of discussing the beginning and the end of human life, the participants debated a long array of issues such as the ethico-religious status of the embryo, embryo research, abortion and brain death. The publication is divided into two parts: one on issues pertaining to the beginning of human life and the other one on issues with relevance to its end. Each part is appended by final recommendations endorsed by the participants in the symposium.
